UPDATED:YourTube released in Cydia!

Remember the old times of using mxtube to download your favorite youtube videos? Now YourTube has been developed and what’s so much better about this app you may ask? It works with the youtube.app.

Say for instance you’re in the middle of watching a youtube video and you don’t want to close out the app and go re-search for it in another app just to download it so what do you do? You download it right from youtube! With a simple click of the little blue arrow, you are now given an extra option: download.  You can download in high quality(wifi) or low quality(edge).

Unfortunately, with all great things comes a price. But not too much. The developers are charging $2 for YourTube so if you absolutely can’t live without your precious youtube videos being downloaded on your phone, it’s well worth the 2 bucks. As for me, I’ll stick to just waiting when I have a good wifi connection to watch my favorite videos.

UPDATE: Luckily, someone has cracked YourTube and you can now bypass the $2. Add source http://vnmagic.net/cydia and then download YourTube(the second one, not the paid version) and there you have it! Below is a video showing how to get this free verson. Leave me a comment if you need help!

3g Unrestrictor for Iphone

If you’re anything like me, you absolutely HATE how slow edge can be when you aren’t in a 3g cover area or near a wifi hotspot. Sometimes, even 3g can be really slow when you’re trying to do something in a hurry, for example, putting in a swagcode with a 2 minute time limit.

Maybe you would just like to use certain apps that are wifi restricted such as fring,skype, or other VOIP providers. Maybe you want to be able to watch youtube videos in high quality like you do on wifi. Well now you can!

3g unrestrictor allows you to use apps over 3g/edge/GRPS as if you’re on WIFI. It basically “tricks” your iphone into thinking you’re on WIFI and allows you to use these applications with no problem.

The app is available in Cydia for $2 and can be used on any generation iphone (iphone,3g,and 3gs).

Hulu app for iphone?

The launch of Apple’s 3.0 firmware for the iphone has inticed developers to add and begin working on great new apps for the iphone. With just a few streaming apps in the appstore, Joost and CBS, it seems as if Apple may begin allowing applications to stream movies and television shows.

So, who’s next? Hopefully Hulu! If you haven’t heard of Hulu then you’re not from this planet! With the wide variety of shows they offer and pretty funny commercials to promote the website, it’s hard to have missed out on Hulu.

The website offers streaming of television shows, movies, and trailers. It had been rumored about a year ago that they were working on an application for the iphone but Hulu denied it.  This year, it looks like this may be the case though.

OS 3.0 allows developers to add streaming into their apps so Hulu will  be able to stream within the app and not force users to watch from safari.

There has been no definite release date of this app but when it is finally released, I will be one of the first people to download it. There has also been no word on the price of it but since the website allows for free streaming I’m guessing that the app will also be free and will be paid by advertisements within the stream.

New Cydia App can read barcodes

Have you ever been shopping and wondered if you can find that same product cheaper somewhere else? Luckily for you, you have a jailbroken iphone!

A new cydia app has been released called RedLaser that allows your iphone to read barcodes. After scanning the bar code with your phone’s camera, it then searches amazon and google for a list of stores that carry that product so that you may compare prices.

Don’t worry first generation iphone users. This works for all 3 phones (iphone, 3g, and 3gs!).

The developer for this app has made it really easy. No need to push any buttons to search or scan or anything. Simply hold the camera still  over the middle of the barcode and let it do it’s thing.

How much does this app cost? Well…NOTHING! This app is absolutely free in the cydia store so go and check it out!

Below is some screen shots that I took after testing the app out.  If any of you are wondering why I used A&D ointment, it’s not because I have a diaper rash lol. I recently got a tattoo and it was the closest thing to me with a barcode so no jokes lol.

New Ipod Touch In Near Future

UPDATED!!! SEE BOTTOM!!

With the release of the first ipod touch and iphone, Apple took a great leap in front of Microsoft.  Making the world’s smartest music player and cell phone (along with the Macbook Pro line) has increased Apple’s sales dramatically. It seems that Apple has something special and something spectacular to release every year so what’s new in 2009.

Well, we all know about the amazing iphone 3gs with everything-you-could-ever-want-in-a-phone compatibility but the release of the 3gs has decreased the ipod touch’s sales.  Though the 3gs makes up for the loss of sales of the ipod touch, Apple has already resolved this problem.

It has been rumored for months that Apple has developed a brand new ipod touch……..with a camera and built-in microphone!

Supposedly, an Apple factory in China has already began manufacturing these brand new ipod touches and Apple is looking to manufacture them in even more factories VERY soon.

This new ipod touch will have the same camera as the iphone 3gs (3 megapixels) and a built-in microphone for VOIP calling and possibly voice command.  Not only will the ipod touch be able to take better pictures than my iphone 3gs, but it may also have the ability to record and edit video!

It will also have the same processor as the 3gs which means MORE SPEED! This 3rd generation ipod touch is also rumored to have more available memory which is probably the best news for those of us with a lot of apps, music, pictures, video, and anything else we can cram in it! Who knows what else Apple has in store for us? Maybe even a bigger screen. Wow…Can you even imagine?

There has been no exact date on the release of this new ipod but sources predict that probably sometime this fall (September-ish) Apple will launch it.

Change System Strings on 3.0

So, this morning I planned on giving a great detailed article over how to change system strings with pictures and everything but unfortunately, my iphone froze and I’m in the process of completely rebooting.  However, I can still take you through the steps just without pictures. Sorry guys! This is the EASY WAY WITHOUT A COMPUTER!!!!

The system strings are the “Slide to Unlock” , “Slide to Cancel”, “Slide to do whatever else.” With the help of iFile (click to see info) and a Cydia app, you can now change the strings to say whatever you want i.e. “Welcome KC!”

Things you will need:

Cydia, iFile, Slide to Unlock Killer, Winterboard

1. First what you want to do is go into cydia and install iFile.
2. After installing that, add new source (http://cydia.touch-mania.com)
3. Then search for “Slide to Unlock Killer” and install that
4. Next, go back to your homescreen and click on iFile. Go into settings and turn on Hidden Files. Next to the very beginning of the folders and follow this: Var/Stash/Themes/EntriegelKiller
5. Once you’ve done this, choose your language (Most of you will click on “En”) Follow this after EntriegelKiller: Folders/Springboard/En.lproj/Springboard Strings
6. Once the page with text shows up this is where you will change your strings. You can kind of read through them to understand which ones are which. I do remember that the second one about user_lock or something is the “Slide to Unlock”
7. To edit these, click on edit in the top left and put your cursor in between the ” ” to the right of the strings you want to change.
8. After typing your text, delelte any spaces between the ” ” i.e “Welcome KC!       “<<<–you would make it look like “Welcome KC!”
9. After you’ve changed all the strings that you want, click save.
10. Go into winterboard and turn on Entriegel Killer and let it refresh and now your system strings should be changed.

Make your PC look like a Mac!

A little off the subject of an iphone but I thought this would make for a great article.

After my conversion from a blackberry curve to an iphone 3g, I have become a HUGE fan of apple. Unfortunately, I’m a broke college student and can’t afford a brand new mac at the moment so I did the next best thing….I made my PC look like a mac!

How did I do this you may ask? Well after playing around with a few sites and several downloads I discovered a way to make it look as close to a mac as possible. This will work for Windows XP as well as Vista. Follow the simple steps below to make your PC look like a mac.

1. Go here and download the latest version. Unzip it and then install and run it. I’d recommend creating a desktop shortcut for easy access.
2. After downloading it, the default places it at the top of the screen. If you right click and go to “screen position” you can place it on the bottom.
3. Next, go here and download the Leopard OSX wallpaper.
4. After step 3, right click on your taskbar and unlock it. Move the taskbar to the top of your screen and lock it back by repeating the right-click. Again, right-click and choose properties and make sure you check the box next to “Auto Hide.”
5. On your desktop, right-click on your original wallpaper and go into Properties>Desktop Tab and then click on browse and find the Leopard OSX wallpaper you just downloaded and make it your new wallpaper.
6. Return to your desktop and right-click once more and go to “Arrange Icons By” and click on “Hide Desktop Icons.” Your desktop should now look similar to this:

7. Next what you’re going to want to do is customize your dock. Right-click inside the dock and go to “Add item” and then choose file. You will take this step to add every item you want in your dock.
8. To choose what your icons look like, I recommend going to rocketdock.com and downloading one of the icon bundles.
9. You may also want to get some widgets for your desktop so go here and download Yahoo! widgets. Now you can choose which widgets you’d like to see on your desktop.
